HOLYOKE:  Alan Theodore “Teddy” Taupier, 82, passed away Tuesday, July 25th.  Born in Holyoke on August 24th, 1934 to the late Alexander Taupier and the late Alice (McCarthy) Taupier, Teddy lived all but two of his nearly 83 years in Holyoke.  He was the husband of Dorothy H. (Wheeler) Taupier; they celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary on March 16th. He fell for his loving and devoted wife when he was just 15, she was 14, and both were attending Lawrence School; their first date was to Riverside Amusement Park. They dated throughout their time at Holyoke High School where they were voted “Romeo & Juliet” of the graduating class of 1953. They eventually married in 1957, the day before St. Patrick’s Day in Holyoke; their wedding had a distinct shamrock festooned theme. Out of high school, Teddy joined the Army National Guard while working for Friendly’s Restaurants. At the beginning of 1957, he transferred to active duty U.S. Army service at the rank of Sergeant and served two years, primarily at Fort Hood in Texas. In 1958 he returned to the Army National Guard and was ultimately honorably discharged in 1961. After returning from Army service in Texas, Teddy and Dorothy settled in Holyoke where they started a family. Teddy attended and received an Associate’s Degree from Holyoke Junior College (now HCC) and eventually earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Western New England College. He worked for several years as an accountant at Hamilton Standard in Enfield, CT, before joining the Office of the State Auditor of Massachusetts in 1973. He retired from the Auditor’s Office in 1998. Teddy avidly and proudly attended numerous baseball, football, basketball, volleyball, soccer, and hockey games, cross country and track meets, dance recitals, plays, and graduations of his children and then grandchildren, often supporting these activities in addition to attendance. Always a dapper dresser, he attended many of these events in a sport coat and tie. When his daughter and son moved to California, he and Dorothy traveled there numerous times, basking in the warm sun in February and enjoying the California lifestyle. For many years before and after retirement he met with his buddies at Friendly’s on Northampton Street or at Knapp’s on South Street, again, often in jacket and tie. Throughout his life Teddy was involved deeply in the Holyoke community. He served for a period as a Commissioner for both the Holyoke Housing Authority and the Holyoke Geriatric Authority. He received a Distinguished Service Award from Holyoke Community College for, among other things, the volunteer work he did over the years on behalf of the Alumni Association of HCC, supporting various activities at the College and helping to raise scholarship funds. In addition to his wife, Dorothy, he is survived by his son Todd Taupier of Holyoke; his son Jeff Taupier and his partner Miguel Osuna of Los Angeles; his daughter Alison Taupier and her husband Michael Shevloff of Los Angeles; his son Scott Taupier and his wife Maura (Kane) Taupier of Holyoke; his 5 much adored grandchildren: Nora, Alex, Joe, AnnaRose, and Dashiell; a large extended family, including many in-laws, nieces, and nephews; and his loving and beloved twin sister, Alice Teresa “Terry” (Taupier) Caughey, with whom he started their journey in life together nearly 83 years ago, and her husband Bernard Caughey, currently of Corrales, NM. Teddy was predeceased by his brothers: William S. Taupier, John “Jack” Taupier, and Joseph Taupier; and his sisters: Mary Jane Taupier, Nancy Galenski, and Sally O’Connor.  Funeral will be held Thursday, August 3, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, Holyoke followed by burial at 1:00 p.m. in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam.  Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Teddy to Holyoke Community College Scholarship Fund, 303 Homestead Avenue, Holyoke, MA 01040 or Hospice Life Care, 575 Beech Street, Holyoke, MA 01040.
