Welcome to the memorial page for

Emily Sullivan (Paquette) Grangrade

August 16, 1981 ~ June 16, 2017 (age 35) 35 Years Old

Emily Sullivan (Paquette) Grangrade of Greenfield passed away suddenly on June 16th.  Em grew up in Holyoke and Southampton, graduating from Hampshire Regional High School in 1999.  She also graduated from The Hallmark School of Photography.  She was born in Holyoke August 16, 1981, the daughter of Russ Paquette and Claire (Sullivan) Paquette.  Besides her parents, she is survived by her husband of 9 years, Karl Grangrade, a native of Nantucket.  She also leaves behind her "boys," her three big brothers, Russ Jr, of Park Ridge, NJ, Andy of Auburn, MA and Brian of New York city.  She leaves her two sisters-in-law, Mimi Paquette (Andy) and Karen Paquette (Russ, Jr.)  She also leaves her 3 beloved nieces and nephews, Ryan Paquette and Maeve and Mairead Paquette. Em played Parks and Rec softball, soccer and basketball in Holyoke and Southampton.  Her teammates affectionately nicknamed her "Turtle" because of her blazing speed on the field and court.  She's still known as Turtle in some circles. Em learned to ski at Mt. Tom in Holyoke.  She and her father would "pinky-swear" an argument truce and ski in Canada for a week every year; they went for 5 years during her teenage years.  They both agreed that it was the best week of their year.  One exception...her father would wear a beret and sing the Canadian National Anthem in French while crossing the Canadian/US border stops.  Em spent those crossings on the floor of the car, horrified. Em moved to Nantucket in 2003 and always worked at least 3 jobs at a time.  Her steady job was working at The Bank of Nantucket, she also worked at the "Watch Your Head" store, The Angler's Club, a private fisherman's club where part of her duty's was weighing fish, The Muse (she was a bar back, the Keno b--ch {her words} and a bartender...and much more!) It was on the island that she met the love of her life, Karl Grangrade.  She always said "I discovered myself on Nantucket."  She made life-long friends there.  (She pretty much made friends wherever she went!)  Em was a huge Boston Bruins fan and often joked that she would name her first born Zdeno Chara. We would like Em to be remembered as a great friend, with a big heart, so funny and goofy and always had a smile for everyone.
