Jeanne S. Boynton passed away last Sunday morning, December 31, 2017, surrounded by family after a prolonged illness.  She was predeceased by her husband, Wilson C. “Bill” Boynton in 2006. A 1955 graduate of Holyoke High School, Jeanne returned to college as a single mom of four young children and earned her BS from Springfield College. A lifelong Holyoke resident, Jeanne was active in the Holyoke community and served on many Boards including Wistariahurst Museum, Save the Victory Theatre, Holyoke Merry-Go-Round and Quota Club. A political activist, Jeanne served the local Republican Party as Ward Chairwoman and was elected to the Republican State Committee for three terms.  She helped dozens of candidates get elected to local, state and national posts.  In the 70’s, Jeanne was active member of the League of Women Voters and worked on the Equal Rights Amendment. An entrepreneur, Jeanne and Bill owned and operated the Blue Ship Restaurant in Boothbay Harbor, ME from 1975-1985.  Always wanting to return to Holyoke, she opened a catering business, “Jeannie B’s” from 1986-1993.  Seeking a new challenge, Jeanne turned to Real Estate and was a licensed Realtor from 1993-2015 working at Landry, Lyons and White and William Raveis Real Estate. Jeanne is survived by her brother Joseph Szarek and his wife Kathy; her four sons, Jeffrey Chirgwin, Gary Chirgwin, Brian Chirgwin and Joseph Boynton; daughter’s in law, Audrey Chirgwin and Eileen Boynton; grandchildren Daniel Bradshaw, Jennifer Sady (husband Jon Sady), Pamela Chirgwin , Dariusz Chirgwin, Kristie Chirgwin, Gary Chirgwin Jr., Griffin Boynton and Shaeleigh Boynton; and three great -grandchildren,  Cameron, Mason, and Emerson Sady.  Jeanne is also survived by her cousin Audrey Graci (husband David Graci); Brian’s fiancé, Danielle Ralston and her three children Brandon, Megan and Lauren Ralston. Children from beloved husband’s first marriage are Jeff Boynton (wife Sophie and son Julian), Pam and Andrew Boynton.  Jeanne’s extended family also include her first husband, Edwin J. Chirgwin and his children Laura Chirgwin (son Aiden) and David Chirgwin (wife Tina). Calling hours will be held at Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton St, Holyoke, MA on Friday, January 5th from 3-7pm.  A funeral Mass will take place at St. Jerome’s Church, 169 Hampden Street, Holyoke, Ma on Saturday, January 6th at 11:00 a.m. A burial service will follow at St. Stanislaus Cemetery, 800 Montgomery St, Chicopee, Ma.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to the Wistariahurst Museum, 238 Cabot Street, Holyoke MA 01040.
