Jeanne P. (Paquette) Hortie, 74, of Holyoke, passed away on Monday, November 20, 2017. She was born in Holyoke, daughter of the late Joseph Leon and Jean (Driscoll) Paquette and was educated in the Holyoke Schools. Jeanne received a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in education from Westfield State College. As a dedicated teacher, she worked in the Westfield Public School System for almost forty years, retiring in 2004. Jeanne continued her involvement with Westfield State College by coordinating reunions, alumni events and mentoring student teachers. She was also past president of the Saint Gerard’s Mothers Club. Jeanne was a faithful communicant of Blessed Sacrament Parish in Holyoke, and a former C.C.D. teacher there. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Gerald R. Hortie; a son Todd Hortie of Holyoke; a daughter, Elizabeth Hortie and her husband Justin Souders of Malden MA; two grandsons: Andrew and Evan Souders; and one brother, William Paquette and his wife Michaeline of Belchertown. The funeral will be held Saturday, November 25th at 9:00 a.m. from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, followed by a Mass in Blessed Sacrament Church, 1945 Northampton Street, at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Saint Jerome Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Friday, November 24th from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Westfield Boys and Girls Club, 28 West Silver Street, Westfield MA 01085.
