CHICOPEE: Joseph L. “Les” Niquette, age 89, of Chicopee, passed away on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at home.  He was born in Holyoke, son of the late Pierre and Beatrice (Houle) Niquette, was a graduate of the former Holyoke Trade School and received his Associates Degree from Louisburg College.  Joseph was a United States Army Veteran of World War II serving with the 82nd Airborne Division. He was a longtime employee of the Holyoke Gas & Electric Company, retiring in 1987 as the Chief Power Plant Chemist.  Joseph belonged to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.  He was a member of the Holyoke Civic Coral Society, the Holyoke Beavers Club, and Founder and past Chairman of the Holyoke Conservation Commission.  Joseph was predeceased by his wife, Maureen P. (Preston) Niquette on July 15, 2012.  He is survived by four children: David P. Niquette and his wife Cynthia of Swans Island, ME, Carol A. Baker and her husband Fred of Grafton, MA; Nancy A. D’Angelo and her husband Robert of Lebanon, ME and Susan Niquette of Belchertown.  He leaves 6 grandchildren: Ian M. Baker, Carissa M. Wilson and her husband Joseph, Joseph, Christopher, and Carli D’Angelo, Lauren LaBoursoliere as well as 4 great grandchildren; Cameron, Samantha, Abigail and Lexi and a sister, Jacqueline Hilleary of OH. Besides his parents and wife, Joseph was also predeceased by a brother Marcel Niquette.  Family and friends are invited to meet for a Funeral Service at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 22nd in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 485 Appleton Street, Holyoke. Burial will follow in Forestdale Cemetery.  Calling hours will be held Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, Holyoke. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Joseph to The Trustee Fund at Holyoke Soldier’s Home, 110 Cherry Street, Holyoke, MA 01040 or Baystate VNA and Hospice, 50 Maple Street, Springfield, MA 01102.
