HOLYOKE:  Joseph Edward Okseniak, age 89, of Holyoke, passed away on Thursday, August 31, 2017 at the Holyoke Soldiers Home.  He was born in Holyoke, son of the late Frank and Stella (Kosier) Okseniak and was a 1944 graduate of Holyoke High School.  Joseph was a United States Navy Veteran of World War II and was a longtime professional photographer, working with his father at National Studio.   A lifelong resident of Holyoke, he was a communicant of the former Mater Dolorosa Church and a member of the Polish Falcons of Holyoke, Nest 157. Joseph was a Ward 4 Alderman for the City of Holyoke from 1964 to 1974.  He was the widower of Dorothy (Harris) Okseniak, who died in May of 2009.  Joseph leaves his loving daughter, Marie and her fiancé Dennis Brote of North Brookfield, his son, Edward and wife Mary (Wilhelmi) Okseniak of Belchertown, two grandchildren, Sarah Manning and her husband John of Palmer and Andrew Okseniak and his fiancé Katie Worth of Mansfield, a step-sister, Helen Knapik of FL, sisters-in-law: Barbara Harris of Holyoke, Nellie Robak of Southwick and Barbara Harris of Chicopee along with several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his siblings, Frank Okseniak, Walter Robak, Jean Shutty, Clementine Humphrey, Alice Miller, and Estelle Welzel. Committal with United States Navy Honors will be held Thursday, September 7, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. in the Chapel of the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam.   There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Holyoke Soldier’s Home, Patient Recreation Fund, 110 Cherry Street, Holyoke, MA 01040. The Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
