Margaret M. “Peg” (Cassidy) Greaney, 87, of Holyoke, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, September 20, 2017. She was born in Holyoke, daughter of the late Patrick and Bridget (Padden) Cassidy and was educated in the Holyoke schools. Peg attended Westfield State College, and was a retired EKG and EEG Technician and Supervisor at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. After retirement she was also employed as a receptionist at Holyoke Community College. Peg enjoyed attending the Holyoke Senior Center, and participated in numerous pitch tournaments. She was a former member of the Blessed Sacrament PTO, and belonged to the Irish Cultural Center. Peg was predeceased by her beloved husband, Patrick T. Greaney, in 1987 and her sister Mary Kelly in 2005. She is survived by four children: Thomas P. Greaney of Holyoke, Mary B. Nietupski and her husband Wally of Wilbraham, Kathleen Briant of Holyoke, and Susan Fitzgerald and her husband Mike of Longmeadow; her cherished grandchildren: Eileen, Annie and John Greaney, Pat and Chris Nietupski, Pat and Maggie Briant, Katie, Brendan and Mikey Fitzgerald: her nieces Peggy Kelly and Maureen Ferriter, a nephew Brian Kelly as well as several grandnieces and grandnephews. The funeral will be held Monday, Sept. 25th at 10:00 a.m. from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, followed by a Mass in Blessed Sacrament Church at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Saint Jerome Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Danny Thomas Way, Memphis TN 38105.
