HOLYOKE

Normand A. Drapeau, 92, of Holyoke, passed away peacefully Saturday May 20, 2017 at the Soldiers’ Home in Holyoke. He was born and educated in Holyoke, son of the late Alfred and Aurore (Fortier) Drapeau. Normand served in the United States Navy during World War II and was a member of the DAV and the Purple Heart Recipient Organization. He worked as a meat cutter at his father’s store, Drapeau Market, and was also employed by H.P Hoods in Holyoke and Agawam, and Pat’s Supermarket in Holyoke. After retirement, he worked in Chicopee as a crossing guard and as a cafeteria worker in Chicopee public schools until he was 87 years old. Normand was predeceased by his wife, Florence (Zajac) Drapeau in 1992. He is survived by two sons: Gary Drapeau and his wife Denise of West Springfield, and David Drapeau of Boston; five grandchildren: Michelle, Mark, Stephen, Matthew, and Daniel Drapeau; three great-grandchildren: Nathan, Drew, and Raina Drapeau; three brothers: Gerard Drapeau of South Hadley, Robert Drapeau and Roland Drapeau, both of Holyoke; three sisters: Claire Lariviere of Holyoke, Jeanne Fournier of Burlington, MA, Mary Flynn of Chicopee; three sisters-in-law: Beverly Drapeau of CT, Barbara Drapeau of Easthampton, MA, and Betty St. Laurent of Chicopee; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings: Roger, Donald, and Alfred Drapeau, Marguerite Kranichuck, and Anne Dupont. The funeral will be held Friday at 8:30am from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, followed by Mass in Blessed Sacrament Church at 9:30am. Burial will be held in Mater Dolorosa Cemetery, South Hadley. Calling hours will take place Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Soldiers’ Home in Holyoke, 110 Cherry St. Holyoke, MA 01040
