BREWSTER:  Richard J. Golden, age 86, of Brewster, formerly of Holyoke, passed away peacefully on Thursday August, 24, 2017 at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.  He was born in Holyoke, son of the late Patrick A. and Margaret “Peg” (McCarthy) Golden and was a graduate (1949) of Holyoke High School and Monson Academy. Rich was a United States Navy Veteran of the Korean War, serving onboard the USS Prichett DD561 from 1951 to 1954.  After being honorably discharged from the Navy, Richard received his Bachelor’s Degree from Michigan State University, where he excelled at both hockey and baseball, and was named Captain of the Spartans Baseball team. One of the areas top golfers, Rich was a longtime member of Holyoke Country Club and the Captains Course in Brewster.  He was Supervisor of Attendance for Holyoke Public Schools, retiring in 1996.  Rich is survived by his wife of 49 years, Susan (Musante) Golden of Brewster; a sister, Mary “Pat” Tourigny of Holyoke and many nieces and nephews.  Besides his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Thomas and Robert Golden and a sister, Barbara McKenna. The Funeral will be held on Tuesday, August 29th at 9:00 a.m. from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Patrick Chapel of St. Jerome Church, 169 Hampden Street, both in Holyoke.  Burial will be private.  Calling hours will be held on Monday from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Rich to the charity of one’s choice.
