HOLYOKE:  Robert T. “Bob” Murphy, age 76, of Westfield died on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at the Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. He was born in Westfield, son of the late George and Alice (O’Donnell) Murphy and was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School. Bob served with the United States Navy during the Vietnam War era. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, he graduated from Assumption College.  He was a mental health counselor, having worked in social services for many years.  He was an attendee of the Pioneer Valley Mennonite Church in Russell.  Besides his parents, Bob was predeceased by his wife, Dolores J. (Duda) Murphy on July 7, 1997, and two brothers, George and Richard Murphy.  He is survived by his children, Kevin Murphy and his wife Jennifer and his  children, Abigail and Kailey of Sunderland and Alicia Murphy and her children, Zachary, Rachel and Joshua Malek, and their father Stan Malek of Granby. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Westfield. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, Holyoke, MA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of Bob to the Holyoke Soldiers’ Home, 110 Cherry Street, Holyoke, MA 01040.
