HOLYOKE

Ronald W. Young, age 79, died Wednesday November 1, 2017 at Holyoke Medical Center. Ronald was a lifelong resident of Holyoke, son of the late John H. and Estelle A. (Lewandowski) Young, a graduate of Holyoke High School, and went on to receive his Master’s Degree in Public Health from UMass Amherst. Ron had a long career as the Director of Public Health for the Town of Agawam and later a full-time substitute teacher at Holyoke High School. Ron had a true love for sports, being a college and high-school football, softball and basketball official for more than 50 years. Ron was a communicant of First Lutheran Church in Holyoke. He is survived by the love of his life, Elizabeth June (Koziol) Young; two adored daughters: Beth A. Monaco and her partner Brian C. Rust of Easthampton, Jennifer A. Roderick and her husband Kevin of Salem, NH; four beloved grandchildren: Ashley Monaco, Lindsey Monaco, Eric Roderick, and Jack Roderick; a sister, Janice McKenzie and her husband Robert of Holyoke; a brother Robert Young and his wife Susan of Manchester, CT; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. A funeral service for Ronald will be held Sunday November 12 at the First Lutheran Church, 1810 Northampton St, Holyoke MA 01040.  The family will receive friends and family at the church beginning at 1:30 with a funeral service to follow at 2:30pm.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to First Lutheran Church and School, 1810 Northampton St. Holyoke MA 01040 or to Holyoke High School Madrigal Singers, Holyoke High School, Attn: Mark Todd, 500 Beech St. Holyoke MA 01040.
