Teresa M. Loftus

SOUTH HADLEY:  Teresa M. (Devine) Loftus, 91, of South Hadley, passed away peacefully in her home with her family by her side on Friday January 26, 2018. Teresa was born in Springfield, daughter of the late William J. and Catherine T. (Lyons) Devine, and graduated from Providence Hospital School of Nursing in 1946. She worked as a Registered Nurse for many years at Providence Hospital in both the maternity ward and women’s surgery. Teresa had a strong love for her family, and enjoyed her yard, flowers, and dogs, especially her cocker spaniels. She was predeceased by her husband William E. Loftus in 1972. She is survived by two sons: Thomas Loftus of Southampton, Timothy Loftus and his wife Marina of South Hadley; three daughters: Teresa Gaither of Granby, MA, Mary Loftus-Rooney of South Hadley; Elizabeth “Beth” Loftus of Pepperell, MA; five grandchildren: Melissa, Daniel, Katelyn, Jennifer, and William; two great-grandchildren; a brother William Devine and his wife Jeannette of FL; a special niece Helen and her husband Guy, special nephew Steve and his wife Hillary; and many cousins and extended family members. Teresa was predeceased by two sons, Gerald F. Loftus and William J. Loftus, a son-in-law Donald Gaither, and two special brothers-in-law, Francis J. Loftus (Joan) and James B. Loftus (Kathleen). A Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at 11:00 am in St. Theresa of Lisieux Church, 9 E Parkview Dr. South Hadley, followed by burial in St. Jerome Cemetery, Holyoke. A calling hour will be held Wednesday in the church from 10 to 11 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Teresa’s memory to Holyoke VNA & Hospice LifeCare, 575 Beech St. Holyoke, MA 01040.
