HOLYOKE: Albert W. “Al” Stanek, age 74, of Holyoke, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, surrounded by his family. He was born in Springfield, son of the late Francis and Mary (Dion) Stanek, was a graduate of Chicopee High School and a member of the Army National Guard. He was fortunate to be drafted to the San Francisco Giants after High School and play professional baseball. After baseball Al worked at Hamilton Standard up until retirement. Most of all, Al enjoyed his time spent coaching and traveling with his grandchildren. He was a longtime communicant of Our Lady of the Cross Parish. Al is survived by his wife, Marlene R. (Nevins) Stanek; a son, Jeffrey Stanek and his wife Amy; and a daughter, Lynn Cavanagh, all of Holyoke. He also leaves five beloved grandchildren, Cody, Connor and Cole Cavanagh and Nolan and Finn Stanek as well as his brothers, Robert Stanek of Springfield, George Stanek of Hampden, his sisters, Helen Manseau, Rita Labrecque, and Pauline Stanek, all of NH and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Al was predeceased by three brothers, Frank, Roger and Joe Stanek, as well as two sisters, Alice Belanger and Theresa Donovan. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, May 16th from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street. A Prayer Service will take place following the calling hours at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Al to Holyoke Youth Baseball, P.O.
