Mrs. Barbara Charpentier, 86 of Belchertown, MA, was Called Safely Home on Sunday May 21, 2017. She passed peacefully into Eternal Life at the Melech Hospice House in Tampa, FL. She was born in 1930 in Holyoke, MA. She was the beloved daughter of the late Francis and Anelia (Cenar) Thorpe. She graduated from Holyoke High School in 1946. She then worked for the Meckler Brothers'office and later in life she worked at Emily and Jenny's Restaurant and the laboratory at the Providence Hospital. She graduated in 1970 from the Licensed Practical Nurse program and worked at the Holyoke Hospital. She worked for numerous skilled nursing facilities in her later years all over the local region up until her early 70's. She is survived by her brother and sister in law Peter and Sutin Thorpe of Belchertown, MA. She raised four children who loved her dearly including Laurie Charpentier of Florida, David Charpentier of Holyoke, Richard Charpentier and his wife Kathy Wheatley of Wilbraham, and Gary and Kathy Charpentier of Belchertown. She is survived by her ex husband Richard Charpentier. She had 7 beautiful grandchildren including Symin Charpentier, Amanda Hanford, Raymond and Nathan Duda, Mathew Charpentier, Brian Charpentier, Erin (Charpentier) Heatnick, and a great granddaughter Emily Hanford. She was loved by her nieces and nephews including Bettina Moore, Deborah Gould, and Andew Gablik. She will have her funeral on Tuesday May 30, 2017 at 10:30am from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home. A Catholic service will be at the Blessed Sacrament Church at 11 am, where she also attended school as a child. She was a member of the Christ the King Church in Ludlow. Burial will be held in St. Jerome Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 9:00 to 10:30am.
