HOLYOKE
Bernice Laramee, age 89, of Holyoke, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 26, 2019 at Holyoke Medical Center with her family by her side. She was born in Westford, VT, daughter of the late Corles and Lillian (Sweeney) Lucia. She was a longtime parishioner of St. Jerome Parish. One of her great gifts was that of being a master, self-taught quilter. She sewed multiple quilts for each of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren as an expression of her love. Bernice was the loving wife of Armand E. Laramee for the last 72 years. He was a member of Holyoke PD for 33 years. For many years they enjoyed square dancing and travels throughout New England and Florida. She and her husband were known in their neighborhood and beyond for their frequent walks, always hand-in-hand. She always gave her unconditional love to her family and made sure that everyone was well fed--her coffee-cakes and mac and cheese were her signature dishes. Some grandchildren even called her “grandma coffee-cake.” She is survived by two sons: William Laramee and wife, Monica (Satkowski), of KY/VT; Robert Laramee and wife, Maureen (Downing), of South Hadley; a daughter, Kathy Downs and her husband, Bill (Downs) of NH; 8 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; two sisters, Sandra Hunt and husband, Chuck, of Belchertown, and Beverly Pelkey and husband, Dave, of Holyoke; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, Emmett Lucia, Christine Parker, and Barbara Laramee. All services are private but the family would value any cards and condolences sent to Armand Laramee. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in memory of Bernice Laramee to the Holyoke Medical Center, 575 Beech Street, Holyoke, MA 01040 where she received excellent and continuous care.
