Carol A. (Fitzgerald) Lavelle R.N.

HOLYOKE

Carol A. (Fitzgerald) Lavelle R.N., age 79, of Holyoke, passed away on Friday, May 10, 2019 at Mont Marie Health Care Center in Holyoke. She was born in Springfield, daughter of the late Thomas J. and Marie (Johnson) Fitzgerald and was a graduate of the former Sacred Heart High School and Providence Hospital School of Nursing in Holyoke. A Registered Nurse since 1960, Carol had a long and full career, working at Providence Hospital, the Sisters of Providence Infirmary, Saint Luke’s Home, and Mont Marie Health Care Center, where she also spent her last days. She enjoyed spending time at Quabbin Reservoir and Ashley Reservoir, feeding the deer and bird watching with her late husband Charlie, and vacations on Cape Cod. Carol was happiest when she was with her family, especially her grandchildren. The entire family would like to thank her home health care aide, Doreen Bergeron, and the staff at MMHCC for the wonderful care they provided to Carol. They are also grateful to the lunch group friends who were such an important part of Carol’s life. Her husband, Charles E. Lavelle, predeceased her on December 5, 2008. Carol is survived by two sons: Thomas F. Lavelle of Holyoke, and Charles E. Lavelle Jr. and wife Maureen of Springfield; two grandchildren: Sean and Rory Lavelle; her beloved sister, Maureen Desormier and her husband Robert of Chicopee, and many nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held Tuesday, May 14th at 10:30 a.m. from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, followed by a Mass in Blessed Sacrament Church, 1945 Northampton Street, at 11:30 a.m. Committal will follow at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St. Agawam. Calling hours will be Monday, May 13th from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. IN lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of Saint Joseph Retirement Fund, 577 Carew Street, Springfield MA 01104.
