Chester J. Rydzewski, age 90, of Holyoke, passed away Friday July 6, 2018 at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, he resided at the Holyoke Soldier’s Home. Chester was born in South Hadley, son of the late Felix and Frances (Ruszczyk) Rydzewski and lived in South Hadley until moving to Holyoke in 1939. He was a 1945 graduate of Holyoke High School and was a United States Army Air Corps Veteran of World War II. Chester worked for several years at Remmington Rand and later was employed at Hazen Paper Co. from 1966 until his retirement in 1989. He traveled extensively around the world, including to many world fairs and expositions. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Edward Rydzewski and a nephew David Rydzewski, both of California, and his sister Helen Ziomek of Holyoke. Chester was also predeceased by his cat “Zippy” who was his faithful companion for 16 years. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Irene Rydzewski; a niece Diane Matsuura; a nephew Paul Rydzewski; two great nieces: Kristine Matsuura and Sara Rydzewski; a great-nephew Ryan Matsuura, all of California; a nephew John Ziomek; a niece, Gloria Ziomek; a great-niece Christina Ziomek; and a great-great nephew, Timothy Hansen, all of Holyoke. Chester’s family wishes to thank all of the staff at the Holyoke Soldiers Home and Baystate Medical Center for their loving care and compassion. The funeral will be held Saturday July 14 at 9:30a.m. from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, followed by Mass at 10:00a.m. in Our Lady of the Cross Church. Burial will follow at Mater Dolorosa Cemetery, South Hadley. Calling hours will be held Saturday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.
