Dorothy Marie (Fry) Simmons died at Willimanset Nursing Home on Sunday, September 8, 2019. Born on a farm in rural New Washington, Ohio in 1920 to John E. and Erna M. Fry, she was the last of 4 sisters and has one surviving brother "Bob" Fry living in Michigan. Dorothy was a Registered nurse and worked many years at The Providence Hospital and Holyoke Hospital as a private duty nurse. She was a graduate of St John's School of Nursing in Cleveland, Ohio. She married Edward J. Simmons of Holyoke, MA in 1944. They resided in Hartford CT for a short time and she was working as a nurse at St Francis Hospital when the tragic "Great Circus Fire" on July 6, 1944 occurred. The fire caused the deaths of 167 people. Dorothy assisted in preparing the deceased for viewing and identification. Dorothy and Edward had 3 children, William of Easthampton, Terry Fenn of E. Longmeadow and Edward of South Carolina. She has 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
