HOLYOKE
Edward Gallagher, age 87, passed away peacefully at home with his loving family by his side. Ed was born in Townagh, Bellacorick, County Mayo, Ireland one of seven children of Thomas and Annie (Sweeney) Gallagher. Ed left home at 18 for England where he worked for many years before coming to the United States in 1964. He worked for the Holyoke Housing Authority for many years and was Union President of Council #93. Ed was a parishioner of Blessed Sacrament Church in Holyoke. He was active in many local clubs and organizations including the John Boyle O’Reilly Club, Ancient Order of Hibernians Division One, who honored him as Man of the Year in 2016, Knights of Columbus #90, and the Brian Boru. Ed was an avid dart player and was an advocate for Irish Northern Aid and its cause. He was predeceased by his wife, Bridget (Mangan) Gallagher on October 23, 2015. He is survived by two sons: Michael Gallagher and Edward Gallagher, both of Holyoke; a daughter, Annette McLeod and her husband Todd of Stockbridge, MA; his daughter-in-law Katie Gallagher; 7 grandchildren: Leah, Dylan, Maeghan, Michael, Connor, Jonathon, and Christopher; a sister Sr. Mary Gallagher of County Mayo, Ireland; three brothers: Thomas of Wayne, PA, Frank of England, and Patrick of Ireland; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. He was predeceased by two brothers, Michael Gallagherand Anthony Gallagher. The family would like to extend special thanks to the Doctors and Staff of Holyoke Medical Center and Holyoke Hospice for their care. The funeral will be held Wednesday April 17 at 9:00am from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, followed by his Funeral Mass at 10:00am in Blessed Sacrament Church. Burial will take place in St. Jerome Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday April 16 from 4:00 to 7:00pm.
