Gerald E. Kelly, 72, of Holyoke, died Friday June 14, 2019 at Holyoke Medical Center. Jerry was born in Holyoke, son of the late J. James and Esther (Redfern) Kelly, and was a graduate of Holyoke Catholic High School, Class of 1966. He received an Associates Degree in Wood Utilization in 1968 and a Bachelor’s Degree in Teaching from the University of Massachusetts in 1973. He also served in the Army National Guard for several years. Jerry taught for many years at Peck Junior High School in Holyoke and after his retirement was a self-employed owner of Merit Associates. He was a life member of Holyoke Elks Lodge #902, HCHS Alumni Association, and an avid hunter, competing in many skeet and trap competitions. Gerald is survived by a daughter, Jane Grace Kelly of Holyoke; his girlfriend, Connie Pijar, a sister, Evelyn Hartling of Chicopee; his nieces and nephews: McClair W. Mailhott, Jr. of South Hadley, Alan Mailhott of Holyoke, Keith Mailhott of Chicopee, Gail Foster of Westfield, Lynn Betters of Chicopee, Alice Yeadon of Holyoke, Bill Mailhott of Chicopee, Lise Broulard of Holyoke, Cindy McCarthy of New Hampshire, Michael Kelly of CT, Laura Jacques of Chicopee, and Audrey Jacques of CA; and many great-nieces and great-nephews. The funeral will be held Wednesday June 19 at 9:00am from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home followed by a Celebration of Life at 10:00am. Burial is in Calvary Cemetery, Holyoke. Calling hours are Tuesday June 18 from 4:00 to 7:00pm.
