Geraldine (Shea) Costello, 92, of Longmeadow, former longtime resident of Springfield, passed away surrounded by her family on Friday, September 21, 2018 at the JGS Lifecare. She was born in Springfield, daughter of the late Jeremiah and Catherine (Melaney) Shea and was educated in the Springfield schools. Gerry was employed as an Administrative Assistant for her family-owned Insurance Agency, retiring in 1988. She was a longtime communicant of Holy Cross Church in Springfield, and currently attended Sacred Heart Church in Springfield. Her beloved husband, Philip W. Costello Sr., predeceased her in 2009. She was also predeceased by a brother Thomas A. Shea and sister Virginia (Shea) Tillotson. Gerry is survived by a daughter, Maureen (Costello) Normand of Springfield, a son Philip W. Costello Jr. and his wife Melinda of Wells, ME and Bonita Springs, FL. Gerry is also survived by a sister, Maureen (Shea) McCarthy of Springfield and seven grandchildren, Richard R. Normand Jr., William T. Normand, Katherine G. Normand, Ryan T. Costello, Michael W. Costello, Megan E. Costello, and Matthew P. Normand. Gerry was the proud great-grandmother of eight great grand-children. The funeral will be held Monday, October 1, 2018 at 10:45 a.m. from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, Holyoke, followed by a Mass in Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut Street, Springfield at 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam. Calling hours will be held on Monday morning from 9:00 to 10:45 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Children’s Miracle Network, care of Baystate Children’s Hospital, 759 Chestnut Street, Springfield MA 01199.
