Gertrude Mary (Brassill) Mawdsley

Gertrude Mary (Brassill) Mawdsley passed away on Saturday, January 12, 2019 in the company of her family at Holyoke Health Care Center. She was born in Holyoke, daughter of the late Thomas and Harriet (Burns) Brassill. Gert attended Holyoke Public Schools and graduated from Holyoke High School. She worked in retail at Steigers Department Store, and after raising her family, as a jewelry consultant at Paysaver Sales. She enjoyed travelling, and spent many happy years at her vacation homes in Chatham, Massachusetts and Naples, Florida. She had many friends from across the country whom she met while travelling with her husband Russell while he was involved with the Amusement and Music Operators Association. Gert especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great- grandchildren. She leaves behind her husband Russell, her daughter Paula Zajac and her husband Robert; her son Russell Mawdsley and his wife Helene, grandson Matthew Zajac and his wife Kim, grandson Michael Zajac and his wife Karra, grandson Dylan Mawdsley and his wife Teresa, granddaughter Julia Mawdsley and her partner Steven Orszulak, and her great grandchildren: Ford Zajac, Meghan Zajac, Caitlyn Zajac, Amy Zajac, Benjamin Mawdsley, and Theodore Mawdsley. The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Kevin Snow, and the staff at Holyoke Health Care Center. The funeral will be held Friday, January 18th at 9:00 a.m. from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, followed by a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Cross Parish Church, Holy Cross Avenue. Burial will be in Saint Jerome Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holyoke Medical Center, 15 Hospital Drive, Holyoke MA 01040 or to Holyoke Health Care Center, 282 Cabot Street, Holyoke MA 01040.
