HOLYOKE:  Hugh E. Hurlburt, Sr., age 89, of Holyoke passed away early Friday morning, July 28, after spending his final days surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on May 3, 1928, one of 12 children, in Pepin, WI. He served in the U.S. Air Force, Air Force Reserves and Air National Guard a total of 31 years and retired a Master Sergeant from Barnes AFB as an aircraft mechanic. He continued to work as an electrician in his retirement years.  Hugh is predeceased by his parents Edna (Hill) Hurlburt and James M Hurlburt; his brothers Clair, Perry, Vivus, Oliver, Orvel,  and George and his sister Liotia.  Hugh is survived by his wife of 63 years, Claire (O'Donnell) Hurlburt; his 5 children Kathleen Wohlers (William), Hugh E. Hurlburt, Jr., James M. Hurlburt and Mary Carzello (and her grandson Dustin) all of Holyoke; Marybeth Noyes (Timothy) of Nashua, NH; and Melissa Moriarty (Robert) of Westfield, MA; 8 grandchildren: Kristopher, Samantha, Rebecca, Elizabeth, Brigid, Sarah, Matthew and Daniel.  His sisters Lola Hurlburt and Lana Odegard and 2 brothers, Horace (Carol) Hurlburt and Glenn Hurlburt all from Wisconsin along with many nieces and nephews.  Hugh was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Cross Church in Holyoke, and an active member of the Holyoke Elks Lodge # 902. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren; golfing, fishing and watching the Red Sox. He will be missed dearly by all who were blessed to have known him. The Funeral will be held on Thursday, August 3, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Cross Church, Holy Cross Avenue. Burial will follow in St. Jerome Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Holyoke Soldiers Home or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
