The first time I met Mr. James E. Taylor Sr. was when the Holyoke Touch Football League was formed. It consisted of teams made up from the various wards throughout the city. The vast majority of players where made up of individuals that were a few years removed from high school(probably trying to relive their conceived "Glory Days"). Mr Taylor was at least 15yrs. older than 99 percent of the players. Being the QB of the team and seeing him playing as an outside rusher; I figured he was an easy target to take advantage of. Boy was I wrong!
Over the course of the season, despite his age, approx. 35, (seemed ancient to us) he was one of the most intense and gifted players in the league. This was only matched by his sportsmanship on and off the field. He was truly an inspiration to all of us "younger" players.

Over the ensuing years, many had the privilege of seeing him perform as the lead singer and front man of the Crescents. He had the voice, moves and professionalism of the entertainers spawned by Motown.

When you look for the special individuals that are part of Holyoke's history; Mr James E. Taylor Sr. is certainly one of them.

His devotion to his family and friends, goes without saying!

Rest in Peace.
