Janina E. (Gwozdz) Irzyk

Janina Elzbieta Irzyk, age 80, of Holyoke, passed away peacefully Wednesday January 8, 2020 at Willimansett Center East Nursing Home. Janina was born in Eastern Poland, daughter of the late Jakub and Jadwiga (Dabrowska) Gwozdz, and was raised in Malbork, Poland. She worked at a local Post Office in Poland before emigrating to the United States. She worked for over 40 years as a Book Binder at National Blank Book Company/Avery Dennison in Holyoke, retiring in 2010, and was a communicant of Our Lady of the Cross Parish Church, formerly Mater Dolorosa Parish in Holyoke. Janina was the widow of Jacek J. Irzyk who died in October 1992. She is survived by four children: Mark Irzyk of Cummington, MA, Kryska Irzyk of Golden, CO, Richard Irzyk of South Hadley, and Peter Irzyk of South Hadley; five grandchildren: Brandyn, Rachel, and Patti Irzyk, Cody and Kasia Kerridge; and a sister, Joanne Zietek of Malbork, Poland. Besides her parents and husband, Janina was predeceased by a daughter Basia Irzyk. The funeral will be held Friday January 17 at 8:30am from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, Holyoke, followed by Mass at 9:30am in Our Lady of the Cross Church. Burial will be held in Mater Dolorosa Cemetery, South Hadley. Calling hours are Thursday January 16 from 4:00 to 7:00pm
