SOUTH HADLEY
John D. “Jack” O’Connor, age 80 of South Hadley, passed away on Sunday, April 21, 2019 at his home. He was born in Holyoke, a son of the late John and Margaret (Ryan) O’Connor, attended Holyoke schools, and graduated with an associate’s degree from the former Holyoke Junior College. Jack was a United States Army veteran, serving from 1962 to 1964. He lived in South Hadley for many years and was a retired 40-year maintenance custodian at James River Graphics Company. Jack had many friends in South Hadley and Holyoke and was well known for is daily trips to Holyoke on the PVTA bus. He is survived by a sister: Linda Klekotka of Chicopee; two brothers: Gerald O’Connor of Sun City, AZ and Donald O’Connor of Chicopee; a sister-in-law: Joan O’Connor of South Hadley; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Jack was predeceased by a brother: James L. O’Connor, and two sisters: Beverly Trombley and Gail Boudreau. Relatives and friends are asked to meet on Friday, April 26 at 10:00 am for committal and military honors in the chapel of the MA Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam. Calling hours will be held Thursday, April 25 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, Holyoke. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jack’s honor to Friends of The Soldiers’ Home Inc., P.O. Box 1338, Holyoke, MA 01041.
