Josephine Sophia (Burek) Wojnarowski, age 88, of South Hadley passed away on Monday, November 19, 2018. She was born in Detroit, MI, a daughter of the late Frank G. and Marion Rose (Mikolajczyk) Burek. Josephine moved to South Hadley at the age of three and was a graduate of South Hadley School. She worked as a Dental Assistant for Dr. Wilfred LaBelle in Holyoke for over 44 years and was the retired owner/broker of Chestnut Hill Real Estate in South Hadley. Josephine was the former co-president of the South Hadley Women’s Club, a member of the South Hadley Historical Society, the South Hadley Historical Commission (former chair), board member for the South Hadley & Granby Chamber of Commerce, trustee and former curator of the Old Fire House Museum in South Hadley, a member of the South Hadley By-Law Review Committee, South Hadley Community Preservation Act Study Committee, a Girl Scout Leader, a member of the St. Patrick’s Rosary Altar Society, South Hadley Lyons Club Citizen of the Year award winner, and a board member of South Hadley TRIAD. She was predeceased by her husband, Rudy J. Wojnarowski on July 5, 1987. Josephine is survived by two daughters, Debra A. Wojnarowski of Framingham and Gail G. (Wojnarowski) Scanlon and her husband Michael J. Scanlon of South Hadley, MA and Hampton, NH; three grandchildren: Jonathan Scanlon and his wife Jennifer Thorn Scanlon of Cairanne, France, Douglas Scanlon and his wife Autumn Huey Scanlon of South Hadley and Abigail Scanlon of South Hadley; two greatgrandchildren: Tyler and Iris Scanlon of South Hadley; two sisters: Dorothy Wzorek and Gloria Simpson, both of South Hadley and many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, November 23, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Patrick Church, 30 Main Street, South Hadley. Burial will follow in Mater Dolorosa Cemetery. There are no calling hours. The Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
