Joyce M. (Cantin) Burke

HOLYOKE

Joyce Mary (Cantin) Burke, age 91, of Holyoke, passed away surrounded by her family on Monday, September 23, 2019. She was born in Holyoke, a daughter of the late Wellington L. and Genevieve M. (Allman) Cantin, and was a 1945 graduate of Holyoke High School. Joyce was a lifelong resident of Holyoke where she was a communicant of Saint Jerome Church and served the parish as a Eucharistic Minister. She was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, George D. Burke, on July 22, 1999. Joyce is survived by five daughters: Patricia J. Casey and her husband Dennis of Mantua, NJ, Julie S. Crozier of Boston, Mary J. Moran and her husband Michael of Spencer, Sheila A. Chicorka and her husband Frank of Easthampton, and Kristine M. Karish and her husband Robert of Salem; seven grandchildren: Tara Fjellin, Kathryn Chicorka, Elizabeth Moran, Timothy Casey, Sarah Abel, Rebecca Moran, and Emma City; four great-grandchildren: Charlotte, Madelyn, Oliver and Nathaniel Fjellin, as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and her husband, Joyce was predeceased by a sister, Kristine M. McGough, and a son-in-law, Robert D. City. The funeral will be held Saturday, September 28th at 8:30 a.m. from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Saint Patrick Chapel of Saint Jerome Church, 169 Hampden Street. Burial will follow at Saint Jerome Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Friday, September 27th from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Saint Jerome Parish, 169 Hampden Street, Holyoke, MA 01040.
