Margaret M. Paquette

September 29, 1920 ~ June 12, 2017 (age 96) 96 Years Old

SOUTH HADLEY:  Margaret M. “Dolly” (Shevlin) Paquette, 96, of South Hadley, passed away Monday June 12, 2017. Dolly was born in Holyoke to the late Margaret and Martin Shevlin. She graduated with high honors from Sacred Heart High School in Holyoke. She held positions at various places during her lifetime, beginning at the Holyoke Heater Company, Holyoke, and proceeding to MassMutual Insurance Co., Springfield and the Westover Credit Union, Chicopee. Ultimately, she retired from Hadley Metal Stamping & Mfg. Corp., South Hadley. Margaret “Dolly” loved to play music and had played the violin since she was 12 years old. She was a member of both Melodic Strings and the Holyoke Symphonette. She joined others who performed locally at Wistariahurst Museum and had a standing invitation for years to play each Christmas for Midnight Mass at Mater Dolorosa Church. Dolly met special people who would become life-long friends through her love of the violin. She was also an avid bridge player and enjoyed competing through her membership in the Springfield Bridge Club. She often joined friends for an afternoon of Bridge, followed by some dessert and coffee and a chance to rehash the games. She was active with such organizations as the South Hadley Women’s Club, the Holyoke Women’s Club, the Business and Professional Women’s Club, and the Rosary Altar Society of St. Patrick’s Church in South Hadley. Much of her time went to volunteering for the former Providence Hospital and she did the purchasing and displaying of greeting cards for the Holyoke Medical Center’s Gift Shop. She also spent time at the Marian Center in their Holyoke gift shop and participated in other volunteer opportunities there. Volunteering for Hawthorne House, Chicopee, she made sure that every holiday and birthday for each person was celebrated by the receipt of an appropriate card. Also, if you ever attended any of the frequent fashion shows which were popular several years ago, you might have found her modeling some of the clothing. There was nothing like a fashion show and card party to raise funds for worthy causes. Margaret leaves behind her daughter Penny and her husband Bob Finn of Holyoke; two brothers: Richard Shevlin of Holyoke and Martin Shevlin of Florida; and her daughter-in-law Debra Paquette of South Hadley. She also leaves four grandchildren: Tracey and her husband Dan Cunha, Rob Finn and his husband Nick Fusco, Kelley Finn, and George R. Paquette III and his wife Rebecca. She was a proud great-grandmother to two great-grandchildren: Sarah Paquette and Robert Sousa; and many nieces and nephews. Margaret was predeceased by her husband, George R. Paquette, Sr., who passed away in 2006; her daughter Monica M. Metro, who passed in 2014, and her son, George R. Paquette, Jr. who very recently passed away June 3, 2017. She was also predeceased by her brothers, John B. Shevlin and Edward Shevlin. At the request of her family, services were held privately under the direction of Barry J.
