Margaret C. Stathatos
September 28, 2017HOLYOKE: Margaret C. (Courniotes) Stathatos, passed away peacefully Thursday September 28, 2017 at Holyoke Medical Center. Margaret was born in Chicopee Falls, daughter of the late James H. and Chrysanthe (Gardikas) Courniotes, attended Chicopee schools, and was a graduate of American International College. Margaret was a teacher at Holyoke High School for many years. After her retirement she devoted her life to raising her family and supporting local charities, including Providence Hospital and Wistariahurst Museum. Margaret was a communicant of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Holyoke as a long-time Philoptochos member, co-chairing many fundraising committees. She was an avid lifelong Boston sports fan. Margaret was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Antonios P. Stathatos in 2011. She is survived by her two sons: Dr. Peter Stathatos and his wife Elizabeth of Brewster, NY, and James Stathatos and his wife D’Arcy of New York, NY; three beloved grandchildren: Grace, Amelia, and Olympia Stathatos, all of New York; a sister, Catherine Nicholas and her husband Nick of Long Island, NY; a sister-in-law Ismini Courniotes of Washington, D.C.; and many nieces and nephews. Family and friends are asked to meet for Margaret’s Funeral Mass on Monday at 10:30am in Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 410 Main St. Holyoke. Burial will be private. Calling hours will be held Sunday from 3:00 to 6:00pm at the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Church, 410 Main St. Holyoke, MA 01040
