Marguerite V. (Higgins) Bombardier, “Peg”, died Monday July 8, 2019 at Mary’s Meadow in Holyoke. She was born in Holyoke September 23, 1924 to the late Peter and Annie (Ferguson) Higgins, and attended Sacred Heart Schools, graduating in 1941. Peg married Gerald Bombardier on October 5, 1943 and spent most of their married life in Granby. She was employed at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst as an Administrative Assistant and Technical Typist in the Mathematics and Statistics Department for many years. Active in her faith, Peg was a communicant of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish where she was a member of the first Parish Council, the Women’s Club, a Eucharistic Minister, and a lector. She was also a member of the Friends of the Elderly and served on the Board of Directors for the Council on Aging. She volunteered and was a Patient Representative at the Holyoke Medical Center and was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary. Peg also volunteered as a reader for the 1st and 2nd grades at the West Street School in Granby. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 70 years Gerald Bombardier in 2013; her sisters Anna (Higgins) Zielinski, Eleanor (Higgins) Lawler, and Dorothy (Higgins) Lucchesi; her brothers Owen and Patrick Higgins; and a grandson, Jason Bombardier. She is survived by four sons and their families: Richard Bombardier (Patricia) of Granby, Dr. Garry Bombardier (Cynthia) of South Hadley, Dr. Glen Bombardier (Laurie) of Florence, and Dr. Thomas Bombardier of La Jolla, CA; 12 grandchildren: Rick, Michael, Christopher, Melissa, Scott, Jeffrey, Mary, Andrew, Mark, Nathan, Gerald, and Hank; 10 great-grandchildren: Jack, Kerry, Adyson, Tessa, Kelsie, Ryan, Annabelle, Cara, Kevin, and Charlotte. She also leaves a special daughter-in-law Pam Bombardier of Hadley. Peg will be missed by many nieces and nephews, especially Gerry Crowley, Joyce Mahoney, Joan Buckley, Susan Bestick, Susan Sullivan, and Joanne Grandchamp, who were devoted to her. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday July 11th at 10:00am in St. Patrick Church, 30 Main Street, South Hadley (please meet directly at church). Burial will be private. Calling hours are Wednesday July 10th from 4:00 to 7:00pm at the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, Holyoke.
