HOLYOKE
Marie G. (O’Connor) Moriarty, 84, of Holyoke, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2019. Marie was surrounded by her loving family. Marie was a lifelong resident of Holyoke, MA, and graduated from St. Jerome High School. Marie was awarded a full scholarship to attend and later graduated from the College of Our Lady of the Elms. Marie spent her adult years teaching for the Holyoke Public School system, Blessed Sacrament School of Holyoke and finally retired from teaching while teaching at Holy Cross of Springfield.
Marie married John F. Moriarty on August 5, 1961 at Blessed Sacrament Church. Marie was a faithful communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church; to say Marie was a devout Roman Catholic was putting it mildly. Marie and John raised 3 children; John, Matthew and Marian. Eventually there was a fourth child added to the family, Zapper, the Bull Terrier. There was no greater love than Marie’s love of “Jack”, their children and Zapper. Marie’s greatest strength was her heart, her belief in Jesus and that love would solve everything.
Marie has joined her beloved “Jack” and her sister Deborah (O’Connor) Hourihan. Marie leaves behind her children John F. Moriarty, Matthew F. Moriarty, Marian F. (Moriarty) Colburn and their spouses, Katherine, Michelle and Jeffrey. She also leaves behind 6 grandchildren; Matthew Moriarty, Mary Cait Moriarty, Jack Moriarty, Tessa Moriarty, Caitlyn Colburn, Liam Colburn, along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Family and friends are invited to meet for a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, April 25th at 10:00 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Church, 1945 Northampton Street. Burial will follow at Saint Jerome Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, April 24th from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Marie’s name to the Sisters of Saint Joseph, 577 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
