HOLYOKE: Mary F. Walsh, 83, of Holyoke, passed away peacefully Monday February 25, 2019 at Mount Saint Vincent Care Center. Mary was born in Glosh, Blacksod, County Mayo, Ireland, daughter of the late Richard and Ann (McGinty) Walsh. She was the first of the three siblings that emigrated to the U.S. in 1957, coming over on the boat and finding employment in the Rectory of St. Theresa of Lisieux in South Hadley. She worked for many years as a bookbinder at National Blank Book Company/Avery Dennison Corporation in Holyoke, retiring in 1997. Mary was a longtime communicant of the former Sacred Heart Church in Holyoke and currently a parishioner of Blessed Sacrament Church. She enjoyed her bowling league, BINGO, scratch tickets and daily numbers, and many road trips across New England. Mary was lovingly called “Auntie” to all who knew her. Mary is survived by her two brothers: Michael Walsh and his wife Doris of Holyoke, and John Walsh of Ireland; many nieces and nephews, especially JoAnn Fournier of Holyoke, who was her caregiver, and many great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, Patrick Walsh, Margaret Fournier, and Bridget Lavelle. The funeral will be held Monday, March 4 at 9:00am from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in Blessed Sacrament Church. Burial will be held in St. Jerome Cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday, March 3 from 2:00 to 5:00pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 264 Cottage St, Springfield, MA 01104.
