SOUTH HADLEY: Mary C. “May” (Lawlor/Downing) Kennedy, 95, of South Hadley, peacefully passed away surrounded by her loving children on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at Elaine Center of Hadley. She was born in Holyoke, daughter of the late Bartholomew and Delia (O’Brien) Lawlor and was a graduate of the former Sacred Heart High School and Mercy Hospital School of Medical Technology. May worked for many years as a Laboratory Technician at Mercy Hospital, Holyoke Hospital, Providence Hospital, Westover Air Force Base and Mount Holyoke College Health Center, retiring in 2003. She was a communicant of Saint Jerome Church and a former member of the Catholic Girl’s Junior League. May was the widow of Douglass J. Kennedy, who died in 1995. She is survived by her beloved children, Maureen A. Laramee and her husband Robert of South Hadley, Robert J. Downing and his wife Nancy of Newmarket, NH, and Catherine M. Vieira and her husband Anthony of South Hadley; three darling step-daughters, Cille Kennedy of Silver Spring, MD, Patricia Kretschmar and her husband Raymond of Astoria, NY, and Caroline H. Kennedy of Plainfield, NJ; 8 grandchildren: Bethany, Robert (& Amy), Joseph, Amy, Megan, Catherine (& Benny), Elias (& Katie) and Felicia; 8 great grandchildren: EmmaJo, Jake, Dylan, Nolan, Madeline, Megan, Aiden, and Owen and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by a brother, Bart Lawlor in 1984. The Funeral will be held on Tuesday, September 4th at 9:00 a.m. from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Patrick Chapel of St. Jerome Church, 169 Hampden Street. Burial will follow in Saint Jerome Cemetery, all in Holyoke.
