Mary B. (Bresnahan) Lavelle

HOLYOKE

Mary B. Lavelle, age 90, of Holyoke, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, November 30, 2019 surrounded by her loving family.  She was born on September 4, 1929, daughter of the late Jeremiah J. and Mary (Fitzgerald) Bresnahan and was a lifelong resident of Holyoke.  She was a 1947 graduate of Saint Jerome High School and a 1951 graduate of The College of Our Lady of the Elms where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education.  Mary began her teaching career in Chicopee and retired from the Holyoke Public Schools after a long teaching career.  She was a longtime communicant of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish. Mary is survived by her beloved husband of 60 years, Bernard M. Lavelle; her loving children; John (Lisa), Ann Mann (Don), Teresa, Mary McAndrew (John), James (Liza), Ben (June), Patty McDonald (Jeff), Margaret Kenny (Brenden), and Frances Ahearn (Sean). She also leaves her 26 cherished grandchildren: Katie (Rob), Michael, John, Mary, Hugh, Grace, Owen, John, Caisey, Noah and Liam Lavelle; Ben and Chloe Mann; Jamie, Abbey and Matthew McAndrew, Moira, Mia, Shae, and Rowan McDonald, Marikate, Barrett, Finn and Cullen Kenny and Sophia and Annabelle Ahearn, as well as her two cherished great grandchildren, Madison and Connor Fraser. She also leaves behind her dear sister Margie and her husband Abe Collamore, and her sister-in-law, Liliane Bresnahan.  She will fondly be remembered by many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her brothers, George and Fr. John Bresnahan SJ, her brothers-in-law, James and John Lavelle, and her sister-in-law, Margaret Kaschak. The Funeral will be held Thursday, December 5 at 10:00 a.m. in Saint Jerome Church, family and friends are asked to meet directly at Church.  Burial will follow in Saint Jerome Cemetery.  Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, December 4 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in memory of Mary to The Sisters of St. Joseph, 577 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
