SOUTH HADLEY

Mary Ann O'Connell, 96, of South Hadley, MA, beloved daughter of the late Harold Peter O'Connell and Emma Casten O’Connell, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 27, 2018. She was born on July 28, 1921 in Holyoke, MA. Mary served as the Commanders Secretary with the 439th Tactical Air Wing at Westover Air Force Base and retired in 1981 after 39 years and was a National Secretary Association Secretary of the Year recipient. Mary was a devout member of St. Theresa's Church, South Hadley, serving in the Choir, the Rosary Altars Society, and on the original steering committee for the new church.  She enjoyed her membership with the Korsutus Women's Club in Holyoke. Mary is predeceased by her brother Harold P. O'Connell of South Hadley.  She was a proud Aunt and Great Aunt to her niece and nephews Carolyn O'Connell of Glastonbury, CT, Stephen O'Connell of Manchester, CT, and the late Harold E. O'Connell of Danvers, MA, and their children, Gary, Morgan, Thomas, Kathleen, Daniel, Michael, Peter, Ryan and Annie.  She is the Great, Great Aunt of Kathleen's children, Nicholas and Adam.  We are also thankful to receive Mary's legacy as the family historian. Mary and her family are grateful for the care and friendship she received in recent years at Providence Place and Beaven Kelly Home in Holyoke, and Care One of Northampton. Mary will be interred at Calvary Cemetery in Holyoke following a private family service at Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home.
