Michael E. Shea, 58, of Holyoke, died unexpectedly on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at Holyoke Medical Center. Michael was born in Springfield, MA, son of the late James P. and Corinne June (Purrington) Shea. He was a graduate of Wilbraham-Monson Academy, attended Franklin Pierce College and later worked for the Springfield Republican newspaper. Michael was an avid rock n’ roll fan, and loved the Boston Red Sox, animals, movies, and the beach. He is survived by his sisters, Elaine Shea and her husband, David West, of Charlestown, RI; Patricia Terra of Bristol, RI; and Susan Shea and her husband, Pierre Morin, of Richmond Hill, GA. He also leaves a niece, Barbara Bates, of Charlestown, RI, as well as many other nieces and nephews and his beloved cat, Oliver. Michael lost his best friend, Richard Hobbs, last year. He also had a second family who loved him: Carmen and many other staff at CHD, Bola and Erin and other nurses at Kindred VNA, and his friends at Valley View Apartments, who were there to comfort him in the last moment of his life. The family requests that donations be made to CHD, 494 Appleton St, Holyoke, MA 01040. A memorial service will be held soon. All services are private. Barry J.
