Murray T. Smith

Murray T. Smith, age 72, of Holyoke, MA, passed away on Sunday, November 17, 2019, at Baystate Medical Center with family by his side after a short battle with cancer.  Murray was born in Washington, DC, the oldest son of C. Tynan and Bonnie Smith, and grew up in Alexandria, VA.  He is survived by his wife, Barbara Smith of Holyoke; his son, Joshua Smith, and his wife, Lisa, Yellow Springs, Ohio; his daughter, Jennifer Smith, Washington, DC; his stepson, Michael, and his wife, Kathy, Philadelphia, PA; his stepson, Adam, and his wife, Renee, Holyoke, MA; his brother, Dwight, and his wife, Andrea, Merchantville, NJ; and 7 grandchildren and step-grandchildren.  He was drafted in 1970 and served in Germany for several years during the Vietnam War, where he learned German, and where his son was born.  Murray loved working with his hands, old cars, and various creative pursuits and was an avid traveler with his wife.  Murray retired from Mass Mutual several years ago and pursued further travel and home projects in his retirement.  He will be dearly missed.  A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. in the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street followed by burial in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street in Agawam.  Calling hours will be held prior to the service from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
