HOLYOKE
Paul A. Soltys, age 86, passed away peacefully Sunday July 7, 2019 at the Holyoke Health Care Center. Paul was born in Holyoke, son of the late John and Mary (Antonich) Soltys, and graduated from Holyoke High School and Holyoke Community College. He was a lifelong parishioner of Our Lady of the Cross Parish, formerly Holy Cross. Paul served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict and later worked as a Packer in the Distribution Department at Canson Corporation in South Hadley. He loved music and sang in many local community choral groups and was a soloist in the Holy Cross Choir. He was a member of the Parish Council, a teacher in the Faith Formation program and a member of parish Bible study group. Paul enjoyed hiking and photography and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #90. He is survived by his loving wife, Helen (Toth) Soltys; five sons: Mark Soltys and his wife Jean of Hampstead, NH, Paul A. Soltys, Jr. and his fiancé Cindy Lynch of Enfield, CT, Alan Soltys and his wife Laurie of Brewer, ME, Adam Soltys of East Hartford, CT, and John Soltys and his wife Lise of Dudley, MA; his grandchildren: Steven (Claudia) of Manchester, NH, Michael (Kaelyn) of Nashua, NH, Dean (Kayla) of Veazie, ME, Amanda Reid (Miguel) of Maine, Jarred Reid (Rachel) of Dudley, MA and Lindsay Ferreira of Dudley, MA, and four great grandchildren; two brothers: Dr. John Soltys of Chapel Hill, NC, and George Soltys of Holyoke; a sister, Mary Soltys of Holyoke; and several nieces and nephews. Paul was predeceased by a brother Joseph Soltys and a sister Anna Sadlowski. The family would like to thank the Staff of the 3rd floor at the Holyoke Health Care Center for the exceptional care they gave Paul. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday July 11 at 9:30am in Our Lady of the Cross Church followed by burial at 11:00am in the Chapel of the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam. A calling hour will be held Thursday morning from 8:00am to 9:15am at the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, Holyoke. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Paul to Our Lady of the Cross Parish, 23 Sycamore Street, Holyoke, MA 01040.
