HOLYOKE

Attorney Philip J. McKay, age 94, of Holyoke, passed away on Sunday, December 3, 2017 at his home, surrounded by his family.  He was born in Holyoke, son of the late Frank and Ella (Wolfe) McKay and attended Holyoke Schools.  Phil was a United States Navy Veteran of World War II. He graduated from Villanova University in 1950 and Western New England College School of Law in 1957.  He was admitted to the Massachusetts Bar in 1958 and operated his own legal practice in Holyoke for many years. Phil was a member of the Massachusetts, Hampden County and Holyoke Bar Associations, and also served on the boards of the Salvation Army and Holyoke Family Service. A lifelong resident of Holyoke, he was a longtime communicant of Sacred Heart Church. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Peggy Ann (Cross) McKay; two sons, Philip J. McKay, Jr. and his wife Theresa of Holyoke and Jonathan C. McKay of Fairfax, VA; one daughter, Joella Fortier and her husband Robert of Belchertown and six grandchildren. Phil was predeceased by a daughter-in-law, Lucy McKay and two brothers, Frank and Edward. Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, December 7, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Church, 1945 Northampton Street. Burial will be private. There are no calling hours. The Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
