HOLYOKE
Richard T. Shevlin, Sr., age 96, passed away peacefully Sunday April 14, 2019 at Holyoke Medical Center. Richard was born in Holyoke, son of the late Martin and Margaret M. (Moran) Shevlin from County Mayo, Ireland. He was a graduate of Holyoke High School and served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Richard worked as a Process and Manufacturing Engineer for MCDI in Springfield as well the Springfield Armory, retiring in 1989. He was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church, and a former member of the Knights of Columbus #90. Richard enjoyed model building and had a passion for music, but his greatest love was his family. He was predeceased by his wife, Constance J. (Meunier) Shevlin in 2014. He is survived by four sons: Richard T. Shevlin, Jr. and his wife Valerie of Atlanta, GA, Robert Shevlin and his wife Alice of South Hadley, James Shevlin and his wife Ann of Atlanta, GA, and John Shevlin and his wife Kelly of Cumberland, RI; two daughters: Karen Webb of West Springfield, and Ellen Moriarty and her husband Peter of Holyoke; 11 grandchildren: Craig Shevlin (Pam), Tom Shevlin (Erica), Cameron Shevlin, Thomas Shevlin, Brianne Webb, Maggie Moriarty, Kelsey Shevlin, Tessa Shevlin, Carly Shevlin, Sara Shevlin, and Jackson Shevlin; 4 great-grandchildren; a brother, Martin Shevlin of Plant City, FL; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and wife, Richard was predeceased by his siblings: John B. Shevlin, Edward Shevlin, and Margaret Paquette, and his son-in-law George Webb. The funeral will be held Wednesday April 17 at 12:30pm from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2040 Northampton Street, followed by a Funeral Mass at 1:00pm at Blessed Sacrament Church. Burial will take place in St. Jerome Cemetery. Calling hours will be held prior from 10:30am to 12:30pm.
