HOLYOKE

Robert James Gaughan died Sunday October 22, 2017 at home, surrounded by his loving family. Bobby was born on August 1, 1935, the son of the late Daniel and Catherine (Cauley) Gaughan in Holyoke, MA. He attended Holy Rosary and Holyoke Catholic High School. Bobby was a stellar athlete who excelled at most sports, but was particularly gifted as a quarterback for the HCHS football team. He was inducted into the first class of the HCHS Sports Hall of Fame for football. Bob attended Michigan State College on a scholarship. He left college and served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Alaska. Bobby worked for 32 years as a member of the Holyoke Fire Department, retiring in 1997. He was a member of Holyoke Elks Lodge #902 and Holyoke Country Club. He married the love of his life, Theresa “Gail” (Doherty) Gaughan in 1959. The couple has three children who will miss their father dearly: Jo-Anne Gaughan-Cabral, her husband Richard Cabral, and their two sons Matthew and Michael; Debra Lehan, her husband Michael Lehan and their children Alyssa and Jack; Daniel Gaughan, his partner Amy Pasterczyk and his sons Bryan and Timothy; his beloved nephew (son) Craig Doherty, his wife Alicia and their sons Sean and Tommy. He also leaves his two nieces, Christine Calcinary and her husband Fred, and Gail Gaughan, as well as two nephews Kevin and Patrick Gaughan of Chicago. Bobby was predeceased by his two brothers, Daniel and Roger. The family would like to thank all the amazing friends who have been so generous with their time, providing both Bobby and Gail with their daily love and support. The funeral will be held Thursday at 9:00am from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton St., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in Blessed Sacrament Church. Burial will be private and at convenience of family. Calling hours are Wednesday 4:00 to 7:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place Memphis, TN 38105
