HOLYOKE

R Robert (Bob) Grenier, 88, resident of South Hadley, passed away peacefully at home in the presence of his loving family, Oct 10, 2017. Born in Holyoke, son of the late Joseph and Armenie Grenier, Bob was a graduate of Perpetual Help Grammar School, Holyoke High School class of ’48 and studied photography at New York Institute of Photography. He was married to Helene (Sauve) Grenier for 66 years. A well known Professional Photographer, at age 20 began his long business career with partner Lucien “Duke” Ducharme. Their Studio was known as Grenier/Ducharme Studio. He had been active and held leadership roles in many service and civic organizations. Past President of Professional Photographers Associations of New England and Massachusetts, Past President Beavers Club and Chairman of the Board of Providence Ministries, board member of the Holyoke Chamber of Commerce and the Chargers Committee. He was member of the Massachusetts National Guard for 10 years, retiring as Master Sergeant in 1968. He had served as director and member of the executive committee of Union St Jean-Baptiste, and was elected second Vice President in 1982. Active on committees of the Catholic Diocese of Springfield, Perpetual Help Church and Our Lady of Guadalupe parish. He has served as Eucharistic minister, lector and altar server in his home parish. He was recipient of the St Patrick’s Parade Committee Citizenship Award in 1979 and inducted into the Holyoke High School Hall of Fame in 1995. He received the Human Relations Award of the Greater Holyoke Council for Human Understanding 2012, Pioneer Valley Citizens for Life, Pro-Life Couple of the Year Award 2011, American Cancer Society Sandra C Labaree Volunteer Values Award for Stewartship 2001, Providence Ministries Agnes Broderick, S.P. Justice and Peace Award 2003. He is survived by his wife Helene (Sauve) Grenier and two daughters, Jo-Anne Palmer of South Hadley and Francine (Rick) Stephens of Leominster, MA and four sons Larry (Patricia) of East Longmeadow, Daniel (Maureen )of Austin, TX, Marc (Briget-deceased) of Holyoke, Christopher (Catherine) of Chicopee. Eleven Grandchildren: Five Grandsons, Michael, Jeffrey, Andrew, Christian Grenier and Zachary Wilgus. Six granddaughters: Carolyn(P.J.)McClay, Kara(Greg)Salton, Casey and Nicole Grenier, Michelle Stephens and Pauline Piechota. Four Great Granchildren: Declan and Eamon McClay, Hazel Rose Salton and Owen Grenier. Sisters-in-law Claire Grenier, Rhea Sauve, and Rita Peloquin and several nieces and nephews. He is pre-deceased by a daughter, Lisa Wilgus in 2007 and siblings, Romeo, Paul, Normand and Donald Grenier, Millie Archambeault, Cecile Brochu, Yvonne Loudon, Marie Pafik and Anne Guiheen. Calling Hours will be held on Friday October 13, 2017 from 3-7pm at Barry J Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton St., Holyoke, MA. Friends are asked to meet at church for a Liturgy of Christian Burial on Saturday October 14, 2017 at 10am in St Patrick’s Church, 30 Main Street.
