Robert F. Pelczarski

HOLYOKE:  Robert Francis “Perch” Pelczarski, 77, of Holyoke, passed away after a long illness on Wednesday September 26, 2018 at Loomis House in Holyoke. He was born in Holyoke, son of the late Max and Sophie (Nizinski) Pelczarski, and was educated in local schools. A United States Army Veteran, Perch worked in or on various long range and short-range missile sites in Korea from 1959 to 1962, Honorably Discharged with the rank of Sergeant. He worked as a pressman at the former Holyoke Transcript Telegram Newspaper and then at the Malden Evening News. Robert was a longtime communicant of Mater Dolorosa and Holy Family Parishes, and currently worshipped at Blessed Sacrament Church. He was an avid golfer and was very active for many years with the Holyoke Youth Baseball League as a coach in several different divisions, and an avid fan of all Boston sports teams. He was a member of Holyoke Lodge of Elks #902, and served on the House Committee for many years. Robert is survived by his wife of 52 years, Judith C. (McCarthy) Pelczarski, R.N.; one son, Robert Pelczarski and his wife Kristina of Paxton, MA; one daughter, Mary Kathryn “Kate” Ritchie and her husband Jason of Westfield; and will be missed dearly by his loving grandchildren, Brennen, Kailey, and Isabella Pelczarski and Michael, Owen, and Patrick Ritchie.  He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and leaves many cousins including Richard Turek who has been by his side through much of his illness.   Besides his parents, Perch was predeceased by a son, David Pelczarski, a brother Daniel, and his best friend, Neil Glidden. A Funeral Home Service will be held Thursday October 4 at 9:30 am in the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, followed by Committal with Military Honors at 11:00 am in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA. Calling hours will be held Wednesday October 3 from 4:00 to 7:00pm.
