HOLYOKE
Ronald J. LaMagdelaine, age 86, a lifelong resident of Holyoke, passed away on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at the Holyoke Soldier’s Home. He was a graduate of Holyoke High School and the former Northampton Commercial College. Ron proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean War aboard the U.S.D. Strong. He was retired from the State Bureau of Welfare Auditing. Ron was very active coaching football and basketball, and volunteering at Holyoke Medical Center, Ground Zero, and The Living Heart. He was predeceased by his parents, Leo and Margaret (Judd) LaMagdelaine, his sister Helen, and a son Jeffrey LaMagdelaine. Ron is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Carol (Roberts) LaMagdelaine; a son, Mark and his wife Kathryn of Point Pleasant Beach, NJ; a daughter, Deborah of Holyoke; his grandchildren: Alex and his wife Catherine LaMagdelaine of Red Bank, NJ, Sarah and her husband Marcus Richtel of Eatontown, NJ, and Jonathan LaMagdelaine of Holyoke. He also leaves two great grandchildren, Reese LaMagdelaine and Edward Richtel; a brother-in-law and best friend, Dr. Archie Roberts and his wife Nancy of Little Silver, NJ, and many nieces and nephews. The LaMagdelaine family offers their heartfelt thanks to the staff and nurses at the Holyoke Soldier’s Home for their exceptional care of Ron. They are also thankful for the Hospice of the Fisher Home. The funeral will be held Monday, June 10th at 9:00 am from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Blessed Sacrament Church, 1945 Northampton Street. Burial will follow at St. Jerome Cemetery, 1666 Northampton Street. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, June 9th from 3:00 to 6:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ron’s honor to Friends of the Soldier’s Home in Holyoke, Inc., P.O. Box 1338, Holyoke, MA 01041.
