Rozanne L. (Smith) Chouinard

HOLYOKE

Rozanne L. (Smith) Chouinard, age 79, of Holyoke, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 6, 2018 following a courageous battle with breast cancer, surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Holyoke, daughter of the late Joseph R. and Helen C. (Milko) Smith. Roz was a 1957 graduate of the former Sacred Heart High School and attended Holyoke Community College, earning her Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education.   She raised her family in Holyoke for many years before retiring to a country life in Huntington MA. There she enjoyed nature and wildlife, particularly birds, and the quietude of her beautiful land. She was employed by New England Telephone and AT&T before retiring from the United States Postal Service. Roz was an avid crossword puzzler, reader, genealogist and cook extraordinaire. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Her openness to all of humanity and kindness was noticed by those who were fortunate to have crossed her path. Nobody was invisible to her, she made everyone she met feel special.  She was predeceased by a son, Ralph J. Chouinard, Jr. Rozanne was the widow of Atty. Ralph J. Chouinard. She is survived by three children, Anne Martocci and her husband Michael of Fort Myers, FL, Katherine Dean and her husband, Dr. Mark R. Dean of Northampton and John Chouinard of Holyoke; her three cherished grandchildren, Allison Martocci of Simsbury, CT, Johnathan and Maria Dean, of Northampton and her beloved kitty cat, Smoky Joe, who was her faithful companion for many years.  Roz’s family would like to thank the staff at the Cooley Dickinson VNA & Hospice for the care they provided to Roz during her recent illness. Calling hours will be held Sunday, August 12th from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. followed by a prayer service at 5:00 p.m. at the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton St. A reception and time to visit with her family will be held at The Summit View Banquet Facility, 555 Northampton Street, Holyoke, Sunday evening from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Rozanne to Cooley Dickinson VNA & Hospice, 168 Industrial Dr E #1, Northampton, MA 01060 or a charity of one’s choice.
