Ruth E. (Moynihan) O'Neill

HOLYOKE

Ruth E. (Moynihan) O’Neill, age 91, of Holyoke, passed away on Friday, June 8, 2018 at her home.  She was born in Holyoke, a daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Cauley) Moynihan and was a 1944 graduate of the former Sacred Heart High School.  Ruth was a retired 25-year office secretary at Holyoke High School and later Dean Technical High School.   She is survived by ten children, Thomas (Kathy) O’Neill of Holyoke, Michael (Marianne) O’Neill of South Yarmouth, Barbara (Homer) Jackson of Fleming Island, FL, Christine O’Connor of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, Brian (Donna) O’Neill of Jacksonville, FL, Kevin (Karen) O’Neill of Jacksonville, FL, Joanne O’Neill (Bob O’Neill) of Norwood, Nora Millette of Enfield, CT, Daniel O’Neill of Tampa, FL, and Maureen O’Neill (Farrar Martin) of Tarboro, NC; 24 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren;  a brother, Francis Moynihan of Avon, CT, a sister, Mildred Hannigan of Holyoke and many nieces and nephews.  Ruth was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Beth O’Neill Vella; a great granddaughter, Emily Kathleen O’Neill; 2 brothers, William Moynihan and John Moynihan; and 2 sisters, Mary Craven and Catherine Moynihan. The O’Neill family would like to thank the staff at Loomis House Assisted Living and Ruth’s special caregiver, Mary Greaney, for their kind and compassionate care. The funeral will be held on Friday, June 15, at 9:00 a.m. from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, followed by a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Saint Jerome Church, 169 Hampden Street. Burial will follow in St. Jerome Cemetery.  Calling hours will be held on Thursday, June 14th from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Ruth to Holyoke Boys and Girls Club, 70 Nick Cosmos Way, Holyoke, MA 01040.
