HOLYOKE
Samuel F. Boardway, 53, of Holyoke, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday December 25, 2019 at Holyoke Medical Center. Samuel was born in Holyoke, son of Robert and Marie (Finnerty) Boardway, and attended Holyoke Schools. He worked for Taplin Yard Pump & Power Equipment as a Service Technician and Mechanic. Sam was known as a “handyman” and Mr. Fix It was always the go-to man for any projects for family and friends. He was kind hearted and never turned any one down. Sam volunteered for various jobs at the Irish Cultural Center in West Springfield. His biggest joy was spending time with his family. Samuel is survived by his parents, Robert and Marie (Finnerty) Boardway; his wife, Sharon “Sheri” (Hannifan) Boardway; his children: Mathew Gaspari of Holyoke, Sean Hannifan (Karissa Stanley) of Maine, and Colin Hannifan (Savannah Hardy) of Holyoke; three grandchildren: Ava, Quinn, and Benjamin Hannifan; a brother, T.J. Boardway of South Hadley; two sisters: Paula Akalis (Steve) of Holyoke, and Katie Bilek (Brian) of Brighton, Michigan; 6 nieces and nephews: Carley, Caelah, and Dylan Akalis, and Shane, Colin, and Liam Bilek. The funeral will be held Tuesday December 31 at 9:30am from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30am in Blessed Sacrament Church. Burial is in Calvary Cemetery, Holyoke. Calling hours are Monday December 30 from 4:00 to 7:00pm.
