HOLYOKE
Thomas Henry “Cavie” Cavanaugh, age 51, of Holyoke, MA passed away unexpectedly on December 3, 2019. He was born in Holyoke, on November 21, 1968. Tommy was a proud graduate of Holyoke High School, Class of 1986 where he was a three sport varsity letterman and a member of the 1985 State Championship baseball team. He went on to attend Westfield State University and graduated with a degree in Criminal Justice. He later was appointed to the Holyoke Fire Department and served his community with great honor. Tommy was an avid sports fan and a longtime supporter and coach of many youth teams in his community. He had a passion for his hometown and was so proud of being from Holyoke. Tommy bled purple. Cavie had a great joy for life. Family and friends were most important to him, especially his annual summer trip to Misquamicut Beach and his favorite weekend of the year, St. Patrick’s Day. Tommy is survived by his beloved wife of 25 years, Tara (Vendetti) Cavanaugh and his two greatest sources of pride, his sons, Joseph Thomas and Kyle Charles. Devoted son of Richard and Eva (Szymula) Cavanaugh of Holyoke, brother of Richard (Alicia) Cavanaugh of Exeter, NH and Kathleen (Jeremiah) Cody of Franklin Park, NJ. Tommy also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The family would like to especially thank the Emergency staff at Holyoke Medical Center for their kindness and support during this difficult time. Relatives and friends are asked to meet for Tom’s Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, December 7, 2019 at 11:00 am at Our Lady of The Cross Parish Church, Holy Cross Avenue. Burial will follow at Forestdale West Cemetery, Rock Valley Road. Calling hours will be held on Friday, December 6, 2019 from 3:00 to 7:00 pm at the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street.
