Velma J. (Peters) Danehey

Velma J. (Peters) Danehey, age 84, of Chicopee, died on Friday, April 5, 2019 at the Holyoke Soldiers’ Home. She was born in Thompson, MO and educated in Texarkana, TX. Velma served with the United States Air Force in France, where she met her husband John who was serving with the United States Army.  Besides her husband John F. Danehey, Velma is survived by her sons, Vincent of KY and James and his wife Melissa of Springfield, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Velma was predeceased by her daughter Mary Danehey in 2017, as well as her siblings Owen and Barbara. Funeral will be held on Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, Holyoke followed by committal with Military Honors at 11:00 am in the Chapel of the MA Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam. Calling hours will be held prior to the committal from 9:00 to 10:00 am at the funeral home. Velma’s family wishes to thank the Holyoke Soldiers’ Home staff for the wonderful care that they provided to her. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Velma’s honor to the Holyoke Soldiers Home, 110 Cherry Street, Holyoke, MA 01040.
